Popular weekend beach getaways closed due to dangerous current
GULF SHORES- Popular beach hangouts for people around the capital region are closed to swimmers after five people drowned.
One person was from Louisiana.
Double red flags were posted Monday along the shoreline, closing beaches in Gulf Shores and parts of Florida.
"This includes all beaches from Gulf State Park west to Laguna Key," the City of Gulf Shores wrote in an alert issued Monday afternoon.
Rip currents are posing extreme risks to swimmers and forced the closures.
South Walton County, Destin, and all beaches in Bay County, Florida are closed according to reports.
