BATON ROUGE- When Pope John Paul II visited New Orleans in 1987, Betty Wright brought her entire family to a mass the pope held at UNO.

She says as her family waited for the pope, the sky began to open up and it seemed destined rain would cloud her chance to see the Pontiff, until Pope John Paul II emerged and the skies cleared.

"It was a miracle, because I just knew, my kids would be under an umbrella and wouldn't be able to see, but immediately it quit raining as soon as he came out and it was a beautiful afternoon," said Wright.

She said just seeing the pope was enough to stir deep emotions.

"It was almost like a peaceful feeling, you know, that I was this close to the pope, you know it was just a calming feeling," said Wright.

The New Orleans Museum of Art is hosting an exhibit about Pope John Paul II until June, 16th.
