A Ponchatoula man has been arrested in suspicion of abusing his elderly father, according to authorities.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 47-year-old Jack Bennett, Jr., on Monday for charges of cruelty to the infirm.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said in a press release that their investigation began when an anonymous source told them Bennett hadn't been properly caring for his 74-year-old father.

He said investigators later found signs of severe neglect and abuse, and took Bennett's father to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment.

Edwards said the investigation is still ongoing, and Bennett could face additional charges.
