Police working multiple interstate wrecks
BATON ROUGE - Multiple wrecks tied up the interstate system around Baton Rouge and sent several people to the hospital before noon Wednesday.
Baton Rouge Police closed I-110 South near the Capitol building after an SUV slammed into a concrete barrier. Officers diverted traffic off at the North Ninth Street exit and told drivers to avoid the area before reopening one lane around 11:30 a.m., and fully reopening the interstate after noon.
Meanwhile, State Police responded to a serious injury wreck on I-10 West near the US 61 overpass near Sorrento. LSP said it was a single-vehicle wreck with two people critically injured, and that the vehicle caught on fire after it hit the treeline. Acadian AirMed flew one person who was thrown out of the vehicle from the scene.
Troopers said the wreck closed the left lane and drivers should expect delays in that area for the next hour. All lanes were reopened by 12:30.
