Police: Victim identified in overnight homicide
BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge police say a man was gunned down Saturday night.
Police say Jeremy Costley, 24, was killed on Plank road at Jefferson street, which is near I-110 at around 9 p.m.
Officials say the victim was shot in the stomach and found lying on the sidewalk. He died at the hospital from his injuries.
One man who lives in the neighborhood where the shooting happened is making a personal plea to criminals.
"The violence needs to stop. How I feel...I think we're not reaching the ones that's doing it," said Shawn Meyers.
Meyers said he believes something can be done to end the violence if those who are committing it are reached.
"They're not going to church. They won't go to church. They're on the street. So, the young guys, we got to come out and talk to them on the streets."
Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting and are investigating the situation. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide division at 389-4868.
