LAFAYETTE - Police said a tip led them to connect Brandon Lavergne, a registered sex offender in St. Landry Parish, to the disappearance of Mickey Shunick and eventually arrest him.
Chief Jim Craft of the Lafayette Police Department said the tip from a "concerned citizen" linked Lavergne and his white pickup, which he reported stolen and turned up burned in Texas, to the disappearance.
Craft said they also found evidence that put Lavergne in the Whiskey Bay Bridge area where Shunick's bicycle was later found. He declined to say what that evidence was.
State Police arrested Lavergne yesterday and he was questioned by investigators in Lafayette. Craft said he asked for a lawyer and would not cooperate with investigators.
Shunick went missing in May, and her bike was found with damage police said indicated it had been hit by a vehicle.
News 2's Mike Steele will have the latest developments in the case starting at 4 p.m.
