BAKER - Police arrested a Baker Middle School teacher after a parent complained the teacher "yanked" her son by his shirt Thursday.

Chief Mike Knaps said officers charged Deborah Anderson, 47, with simple battery.

Knaps said officers were called to the school around 10:30 a.m. They said the child called his mother and told her Anderson jerked him by the shirt out of class because his shirt wasn't tucked in, then made him stand outside the classroom.

Police said other teachers didn't see Anderson yank the student by the shirt, but did see him standing outside "very emotional and upset."

Anderson was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish jail and given a $2,000 bond.
