Police spend evening searching for missing child
GONZALES- A very visible search effort was underway for much of Thursday evening here, after a six-year-old girl was reported missing.
Police said the child's godfather filed the complaint after he woke-up from a nap and the child had vanished. The man said he was watching the child when they fell asleep.
Police set-up a command center, called in extra resources, and were even using a helicopter from Baton Rouge Police to search for the child.
Around 8:30 p.m., the child's mother said the her daughter ended-up being with her boyfriend and had been returned home.
Investigators are still not sure if there was confusion between parents and relatives, leading to the child being reported missing.
Chief Sherman Jackson said there is an open investigation into the disappearance.
People who live on Highway 30 in Gonzales said they watched numerous police officers fill their street and saw helicopter hovering above.
