Police: Same train, same day, two wrecks
BATON ROUGE - Authorities say the same train was involved in two different wrecks today in Baton Rouge and Denham Springs.
Police say both times vehicles failed to yield to warnings from the trains, and drivers in both incidences were not seriously injured.
The first wreck was reported this morning on Airline Highway and Choctaw in Baton Rouge. Sgt. Don Stone with BRPD said a truck towing another vehicle tried to beat the train, and the towed vehicle was clipped by the train.
The second wreck happened after the track was reopened and the train continued east into Denham Springs. Chief Scott Jones with DSPD said a truck ran into the side of the train as it was passing between Range and River Road.
The driver in that wreck had minor injuries, and the track was reopened after noon.
