Police: Robbery suspect armed, dangerous
BATON ROUGE - Police released the identity of an armed robbery suspect who they said shot at pursuing officers in Baton Rouge recently.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Willie Bernard Vinning, 28, is wanted for attempted first degree murder of a police officer and armed robbery.
McKneely said Vinning, who was armed with a handgun, climbed through the drive-thru window of a fast food restaurant on Scenic Highway around 3 a.m. Monday and demanded money from workers there.
Police gave chase after Vinning left the scene in a vehicle until they said he crashed at the intersection of N. 25 and Willow Street. McKneely said as officers gave chase, Vinning fled on foot and fired at least one shot at them.
McKneely said Vinning is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts should contact the Violent Crimes Division at (225) 389-4869.
