BATON ROUGE- The city police department released the names of two officers, stabbed in a confrontation with a man Monday.

Police said Cpl. Donald Johnson, 42, and Officer Brian Strong, 29, were attacked at a house on North 24th Street. Bradford Louis Etheredge, 37, was shot after stabbing Johnson and Strong. Etheredge was killed at the scene.

WBRZ News 2 has learned Etheredge had a checkered criminal past. Since 1997, he was arrested six times for more than two-dozen charges. Charges include drugs, theft, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

WBRZ News 2's Michael Shingleton has learned some of those charges never stuck. He gets answers on why beginning at 5 o'clock.

Johnson and Strong were treated at an area hospital Monday for non life-threatening stab wounds. Police said they are on paid administrative leave, per standard departmental protocol.
