LAFAYETTE- Confessed killer Brandon Lavergne told police he accidentally hit Mickey Shunick in May, and at first, never planned to kill her.
Lavergne's confession was recorded by police in Lafayette, and released to media.
Lavergne said he had been drinking and was playing on his phone when he hit Shunick near downtown Lafayette in May.
"I said, 'don't call the cops,'" Lavergne told police.
He said the pair had agreed to deal with the run-in between themselves, but things quickly got out-of-control.
Eventually, Lavergne said Shunick maced him. So, he stabbed her and thought she was dead. But, realized she wasn't when he went to burry her body.
"She popped up and stabbed me dead in the chest. I don't know if I was more freaked out that she stabbed me, or the fact that she was still alive. I hollered, and I shot, I shot one time, you know one time with the gun. I jumped out of the truck and I was hollering, and I just stood out there and stuff, and I was shaking and stuff, and I started throwing up," Lavergne told police.
Now, he's serving a life sentence. He's also confessed to killing another Lafayette-area woman in the 1990s.
