BATON ROUGE - Mayor Kip Holden announced Tuesday that Baton Rouge Police will maintain a strong presence in areas of the city where looting has occurred after six were arrested overnight.

Baton Rouge Police confirmed that a total of six arrests were made in the early morning hours of Sunday after people entered homes and vehicles in North Baton Rouge. BRPD reported the arrests came in the areas of Beechwood Drive and Doughtery Drive. Two of the arrested were juveniles.

BRPD Chief Carl Dabadie said police officers are doing everything they can to protect homes and businesses. BRPD's Sgt. Don Coppola said this is a time where it is important for the community to come together and not go into each other's homes and businesses in a time of loss.

“We are not going to tolerate lawlessness of any kind or anywhere in our city,” Mayor Holden said. “No part of our city will be unprotected. If you break the law, you will be arrested and prosecuted. The protection of our city and its citizens are top priority. We also urge citizens in Baton Rouge if they see anything suspicious, please call 911.”

“We will strictly enforce the looting code. We ask for everyone’s cooperation to keep our city safe,” said Chief Dabadie.

On Tuesday afternoon, The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office issued a curfew for all East Baton Rouge residents from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
