BATON ROUGE - A police officer and another unidentified person were taken to the hospital this morning after a crash on Perkins Road near Quail Run.

Authorities say a truck pulled out in front of the police officer causing him to quickly swerve out of the way and collide head-on with another vehicle.

The officer suffered minor to moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by a family member.

The truck did not stop at the time of the accident, but officers eventually caught up with the driver and ticketed him for careless operation.

It happened around 8:15 a.m. this morning.
