WALKER- A longtime police officer in Walker was given a letter of termination Friday after he was injured on the job at least three times last year.

Mark Ubas was hit by a car twice on two different occasions as he worked as a school resource officer in 2013. During that time he tore up his knee, which required surgery. Ubas was on workman's comp for a period of time and then light duty in accordance with doctor's orders.

On Friday, Ubas said he was given a two-page letter which stated that the police chief no longer wanted him on the force.  Chief Marliam Lee did not want to comment, saying it was a personnel matter.  However, the letter says the chief will meet with the mayor about Ubas' termination. It will ultimately need the approval of the city council.

"Usually you hear 'brotherhood of blue,'" Ubas said.  "There's no brotherhood. This is brotherhood of (the) bottom line."

Ubas' attorney said what happened to her client is unacceptable. She plans on attending the council hearing next Monday to fight for his job.

"I had respect," Ubas said. "I lost all respect. I'm not only doing this for myself, but there are a lot of guys that wish they could but can't stand up."
