A Thibodaux police officer has been arrested in the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Nicholls State University student.

Corey Morris was arrested and booked with simple rape.

Nicholls State University Police Sgt. Michael Richard says Morris, who was on-duty and in uniform, allegedly raped the intoxicated student after giving her a ride home from a downtown Thibodaux bar in his patrol car.

Morris said the officer followed the woman into her apartment where the alleged rape occurred.

Morris has been suspended without pay.
