Police name local boxer as victim of Mid City shooting
BATON ROUGE - Police confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the victim of a Monday night shooting in Mid City is a well-known Baton Rouge boxer named Emanuel Burton, who fights under the name Emanuel Augustus.
Baton Rouge police continue to investigate the shooting that happened around 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Louisiana Avenue in between Brice Street and North 17th Street.
Augustus, 39, was taken to an area hospital with a life threatening wound to the head, according to investigators.
Video footage taken at the scene of the shooting shows a pair of red boxing gloves near a plastic bag on the ground. Detectives confirmed that the gloves and bag were taken by the Baton Rouge Police Department as evidence.
BRPD said there are no known motives or suspects in the case at this time.
