Police: Man shoots himself near U.S. capitol
WASHINGTON - Police report a man shot himself near the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Building Saturday.
Authorities say the man was wearing a blue backpack with a sign attached to his hand.
The capitol is under lockdown as a precautionary measure according to Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of the U.S. Capitol police.
Capitol police are also investigating a suspicious package that was nearby.
