BATON ROUGE - Detectives are investigating an armed robbery of a Government St. dollar store that happened Sunday night.

Witnesses said a man entered the Dollar General Store at 5652 Government St. shortly before 9 p.m. with a handgun drawn, and demanded the money from the register.

The robber ran away. Police wouldn't say how much money he stole.

Investigators said the armed robber had a thin build, around 6'0" tall and believed to be in his late 30's to early 40's.

Witness accounts and surveillance footage indicate that the man was wearing a black scarf over part of his face, a black t-shirt, dark gray or black pants and black shoes.

He was also known to be carrying a black plastic garbage bag as he fled the scene, according to law enforcement.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Armed Robbery Division at (225) 389-7867.
