Police: Investigation ongoing in officer shooting case
BATON ROUGE - Investigators are still sorting out exactly what happened when a Baton Rouge police officer ended up in a shootout over the weekend. The officer is on administrative leave for the time being.
Officials say the officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on Winbourne late Saturday, when the driver jumped out and took off running. During the chase, investigators say the man shot at the officer. The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect in the shoulder.
This is still under investigation, under two parts," said Cpl. Tommy Stubbs of the Baton Rouge Police. "We do a criminal investigation and we also do a departmental investigation to see if any departmental policies were violated, and both investigations are still ongoing."
Police have not released the name of the suspect or the officer. The suspect will go to jail once he is released from the hospital.
