Man arrested in restaurant armed robbery spree

UPDATE: Police have arrested 49-year-old Kevin Johnson of Baker after he allegedly robbed several businesses in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes at gunpoint.

Police say Johnson robbed five businesses between Jan. 16 and Feb. 20, including two separate Jimmy John's and a New York Bagel, both located on Perkins Road.

Johnson was arrested by EBRSO deputies during a traffic stop Friday morning. He'll be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on five counts of armed robbery.

The arrest was a joint effort between Baton Rouge Police, East Baton Rouge Sheriff Department and Gonzales Police.

BATON ROUGE - Police are investigating after reports of armed robberies at two restaurants along Perkins Road.

Armed robberies were reported at a Jimmy Johns location in the 3000 block of Perkins around 7:35 p.m., and a New York Bagel location in the 8300 block of Perkins 20 minutes later.

Police said no injuries were reported in either incident.

News 2 spoke with owners inside New York Bagel after the reported robbery occurred. They told WBRZ an armed black male wearing a blue bandana robbed their restaurant around 7:25 p.m. and got away with hundreds of dollars. They said no customers were in the store. Employees had also left before the incident. The owners said the store received a phone call, and an employee answered, saying "New York Bagel on Perkins, no we can't take your order right now."

The incidents are under investigation
