Police investigating officer involved shooting
BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge police officer fired his gun at a man trying to flee a traffic stop at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say the officer flashed his lights to pull over the car driven by Jacob Washington, 21, on Plank Road. Washington tried to get away but eventually crashed his car trying to turn onto Bellvale Avenue.
Police say the passenger got out of the car and pointed his gun at the officers. The officers fired one shot at him, but eventually he was able to run away while they were arresting Washington.
Washington was arrested on charges of aggravated flight from an officer, obedience to a traffic control device, stop sign violation and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
None of the officers were injured and it is unknown if the suspect was injured.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fleeing suspect to contact the violent crimes unit at 389-4869.
