BATON ROUGE - A fake bomb inside a vehicle at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport delayed some travelers this morning, but didn't shut the airport down.

Airport police found a car on the second floor of the parking garage around 7:30 this morning. The windshield was smashed and there was what looked like a bomb inside.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and Baton Rouge Police responded, and removed the device with a robot. That's when they learned it wasn't a bomb after all.

"It was a suspicious device that had the appearance of kind of an old time, old-timey bomb with what appeared to be dynamite with a clock on top of it," said Jim Caldwell with the airport. "It was actually wooden sticks painted to appear to be dynamite."

The parking garage was closed for about three hours while police investigated.  Flights continued as scheduled, after bomb technicians determined the device didn't pose a threat to flight operations.

Police towed the vehicle and are working to contact the owner to see if the fake bomb could have been an innocent mistake, or an actual threat.
