ABBEVILLE - The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office says an inmate escaped at around 10 a.m. Saturday morning and is still at large.

Officials say 30-year-old Christopher Dyson scaled the prison fence while working in the laundry room as a trusty.

Authorities do not believe Dyson is armed or dangerous, but they are asking the public to exercise caution by keeping children inside and securing their vehicles.

The Sheriff's office is asking people in the area to be on the look out for Dyson, who is a white male, possibly dressed in a black and white jump suit and/or white t-shirt, and may be walking or asking for a ride.

Dyson was being held in the parish jail on drug charges with a $10 thousand bond.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1.
