Police identify woman who died after being hit by car
BATON ROUGE - Police released the identity of a woman who was hit and killed by a car late Monday night.
Maria Cunningham, 35, was walking in the middle of 72nd Avenue just before midnight when she was hit by Honda Accord being driven by an unidentified 23 year old man, according to Baton Rouge Police. Officers said Cunningham was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators said they suspect Cunningham may have been under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a combination of the two when she was struck.
There is no word on if charges were brought against the driver, and the investigation is ongoing.
