Police identify woman killed in fiery crash on I-10 Friday night
SORRENTO - Louisiana State Troopers have identified the driver killed in a fiery crash on I-10 over the weekend.
According to State Police, the crash occurred on I-10 eastbound near LA-22 in Ascension Parish sometime before 10 p.m. On Monday, police identified the victim as 49-year-old Elsie Bourgeois of Slidell.
Through the initial investigation, State Police determined the crash occurred Bourgeois' vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-10. For reasons still under investigation, Bourgeois veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to State Police.
The vehicle then burst into flames with the driver still inside, according to State Police.
Bourgeois sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
