Update: The pedestrian struck on Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 415 last night has been identified.

Louisiana State Police said 39-year-old Walter Ellison, Jr., Rex, GA, stepped into the path of a pickup truck being driven by 47-year-old Juana Zamora, Bonita Springs, FL. Police said Ellison was fleeing from West Baton Rouge deputies and was handcuffed at the time. Ellison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have been a factor in the crash on the part of Zamora. They have submitted a sample of Ellison’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
