Police identify driver hit by train in Gonzales

GONZALES - Police have identified the driver who was hospitalized after his truck was hit by a train in Gonzales Monday morning. 

Gonzales Police say 38-year-old Harry L. White of Baton Rouge was crossing the railroad tracks on Felix Street when his pickup truck was hit by an oncoming train.

Witnesses told News 2 that the driver was trying to beat the train as it approached the unguarded crossing.

"I heard the train. We looked up and the truck was going and the train never stop blowing he was blowing from way back and i dont know if the guy's mind was gone or what," said Madeline Thompson, who witnessed the crash. "He just, he never stopped."

Police said White was transported a local hospital for moderate to severe injuries. He is currently in critical condition.
