Police ID person hit, killed crossing highway
BATON ROUGE - Police released the name of a person killed early this morning while walking across Airline Highway.
Police said 46-year-old Janelle Jones was trying to cross near the 6200 block of Airline Highway around 2:59 a.m.
Investigators said she stepped into the path of a car heading south on the highway, and was hit. EMS took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said they suspect alcohol and drug use on Jones' part contributed to the incident.
They said the car's driver was uninjured and not charged, and that the investigation is continuing.
