Murdered man was witness, victim in July 4 shooting
BATON ROUGE - Court documents show Shermaine Matthews was the primary witness in a shooting on the Mississippi River Bridge earlier this year.
Family members said Matthews, 28, was shot five times while traveling in a car on the bridge on the Fourth of July. He was in critical condition for weeks.
Right after the shooting, 35 year old Eric Jackson turned himself in to Baton Rouge police facing attempted murder charges.
Jackson has since bonded out of parish prison while he awaits trial next year.
BATON ROUGE - Police released the name of a man shot and killed last night at his home in Baton Rouge.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Shermaine Matthews, 28, was found by police in his home on the 4800 block of Jefferson Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
McKneely said investigators are looking for a man seen fleeing the scene after the shooting.
