Police: Hammond marks 4th fatal shooting of 2013
HAMMOND, La. - Hammond has marked its fourth fatal shooting of the year.
Police Chief Roddy Devall tells the Hammond Star that witnesses alerted police to a shooting early Friday.
He says officers found the body of Jerrell Bird at a vacated property along Washington Avenue. Bird was from Hammond, but his age was not immediately available.
Devall says Bird's body was sent to the Tangipahoa Parish coroner for an autopsy.
The chief says police made no arrest Friday but were questioning several people. Devall did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press on Saturday.
