Police: DWI and injuries in 3 car crash
BATON ROUGE - State police say two children were injured during a three car crash Friday afternoon.
It happened on US Hwy 61 north of Barringer Foreman Road.
Police say 42-year-old Khamphangdeth Souvannaphim was driving on northbound on US Hwy 61. While attempting to switch lanes, he hit the car of 48 year old Scott Caballero. He then crossed the median and hit 48-year-old Scott Caballero's vehicle head on.
Police say Souvannaphim was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Officials say Souvannaphim had seven passengers in the car at the time of the crash, two of which were unrestrained children. All of them were treated for moderate to severe injuries. Souvannaphim was treated for minor injuries.
Souvannaphim was released from the hospital and arrested for Driving while intoxicated, Careless operation, 7 counts of Vehicular negligent injuring, and 2 counts of no seatbelt.
Caballero was treated for minor injuries.
