A gun was fired several times on the campus of Zachary High School Monday. It was part of the testing phase for police dogs and their handlers.

Each year the crime-fighting teams must prove their skills are suitable for use on the streets.

Teams from Baton Rouge, Livingston, Zachary, Tangipahoa were on the field for testing.

During the exercise, dogs were taken one by one to the starting line. A 'dummy' gun was fired several times and the dog was released to catch the assailant. Dog teams were tested on how quickly the handler could get the K-9 under control.
