PLAQUEMINE - Police said Monday, they are getting closer to tracking down the location of an accused murderer.

Jerome "Dusty" Gray has been on the run since Thursday evening. Gray is wanted in connection with the murder of Derick Askins,32.  Askins was gunned down Thanksgiving evening near Canal and Church Street in Plaquemine.

"We're trying to pinpoint the exact location where he is," said Plaquemine Police Chief Kenny Payne.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force have been investigating tips that have slowly been coming in from the community. People tight-lipped at first are now opening up and talking about what happened, officials said.

"Some don't want to get involved, some are afraid of retaliation," said Payne.

Multiple witnesses have pointed to Gray, who police said has a violent criminal rap sheet including aggravated battery.

Police believe a physical altercation led to Askins' death Thursday. A single shot killed him leaving his son, fatherless.

"Now, I'm at the age of 12 and I'm going to grow up without a father and I should have a father," Askins' son told WBRZ News 2.

Family members said they want justice for their hard-working loved one.

"I just want him to pay for what he have done," said the mother of the victim, Virginia Mosby. "He's taken away my son, my grandson doesn't have a father. I just want justice."

Once found, Gray will be charged with 2nd degree murder.
