Police arrest suspect in death of woman found in burning car
NEW ORLEANS - A 30-year-old man has been arrested, accused of killing a woman found shot to death last month inside the trunk of a burned-out car abandoned in eastern New Orleans.
Police say Thayon Samson, of New Orleans, was booked Monday with second-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Lindsay Nichols, of Des Allemands, whose body was found June 21.
An arrest document shows Detective Rob Barrere placed Samson at the murder scene using both cellphone data and DNA results from a pair of shorts found inside the car. Documents also show Nichols called 911 early in the morning she was found, telling operators that a man was outside her car, holding her keys and pointing a gun at her.
Samson's bond was set Tuesday at $2.5 million.
