Police arrest one, search for another in scratch off burglary
HAMMOND - Tangipahoa deputies arrested one man and are searching for another who allegedly broke into a convenience store Saturday and stole an entire display of scratch off tickets.
TPSO deputies booked Rajon Bennett into the Tangipahoa parish prison and charged him with principal burglary and possession of stolen property. They are still searching for Kentrell Sims.
Deputies responded to a break-in at at Wardline Rd store and found the glass front door busted out. The store's owner noticed the only thing stolen was a Louisiana Scratch Off Display.
Police observed surveillance footage and obtained a description of the suspects.
Police say they searched two nearby stores who told them they had accepted cashed tickets from two men who had since left.
Louisiana Lottery contacted police and led them to another convenience store in Amite where tickets were cashed.
Deputies say they arrived and were told the suspects had just left and received a more detailed description of the vehicle.
Police say they encountered the vehicle near Hano Road and made a traffic stop where they arrested Bennett.
Deputies also say they found stolen tickets in the car.
Sims was in the vehicle but exited the vehicle prior to the stop and fled.
