METAIRIE, La.- Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Police say they've cracked the case of a 6-foot alligator found on the 24-mile-long bridge in suburban New Orleans.
Sgt. Mike Kelly tells The Times-Picayune that tollbooth camera footage from June 25, the day the reptile was found, showed a pickup truck with a blue tarp over the bed. He and wildlife agents got in touch with the owner.
Kelly says Whitney Holloman of Lacombe told investigators the alligator was in a swimming hole near his house and he worried it might bite his children. Kelly says Holloman planned to move it across the lake.
Kelly says he issued what may have been his strangest citation for driving with an unsecured load.
Holloman does not have a listed phone number.
