Police accuse man of battery, attempted rape
BATON ROUGE - Police said a woman credited police intervention with helping her get away from a man who tried to rape her in Baton Rouge.
Investigators accused James Percy Fort, 32, of attempted aggravated rape and sexual assault.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to the 2200 block of Pocahontas around 10 p.m. Monday for reports of a possible rape. Police said when they arrived they found Fort kneeling behind the victim, who got away from him and told police he was trying to rape her.
The victim told police she had screamed for help and tried to get away from Fort, but was only able to escape when police showed up.
Detectives said Fort told them he tried to pay the victim for sex. He was booked into the parish jail.
