Police: 5-year-old struck, killed while crossing street Wednesday
DENHAM SPRINGS - Police say a young child was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing the street Wednesday.
According to the Denham Springs Police Department, 5-year-old Malachai Rushing had just gotten food from an ice cream truck when he tried to cross Maryland Street. Police say Rushing stepped out from behind the truck and into the path of an oncoming Toyota Tundra.
Rushing was later pronounced dead.
Police do not suspect that the driver was speeding or impaired, adding that he willingly submitted to chemical testing.
