Police say people defending their homes killed one person, wounded another in Alexandria, and injured a third in a nearby part of Rapides Parish.

The Town Talk reports that both incidents occurred early Monday.

Alexandria police say 24-year-old Darwin Johnson of Alexandria was killed when he and a second man got into the home of a man, his wife and their two young children.

The second man was injured but was in stable condition.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff's office says a man was in intensive care after allegedly breaking into a house dressed in black and wearing a ski mask.

Deputies say the resident had reported other break-ins in the past few weeks.
