Police: 17-year-old murderer busted
BAKER- A 17-year-old, wanted for murder, surrendered to authorities in East Baton Rouge late Monday.
Police said Kenard Gaines was arrested after his picture was splashed on TV and posted on the internet. Gaines is accused of killing Kortlon Johnson, 19, Sunday night. It was the first homicide case in Baker in 2014.
"At some point the victim and suspect had an exchange of words, went outside to talk about it. Gunshots came from that," Chief Mike Knaps told WBRZ News 2 earlier in the day.
Investigators said witnesses told them Gaines shot Johnson several times during an argument outside a home on Daniels Street, then fled on foot.
"I was watching television and I heard what sounded like a gunshot and it sounded close," a neighbor said.
