State budget cuts slashed plans for new playground equipment at Southside Elementary in Denham Springs. That's why school leaders are asking local businesses for help.
Right now, the playground for Pre-K students is bare. To fill it, it'll cost about $23,000.
Jasper Contractors agreed to pay for equipment. That comes to about $15,000. That means the kids still need about $8,000 to cover shipping and installation.
School leaders hope to raise the money by Christmas. That's when they want to place their equipment order. If they can, kids could be playing on a new playground before summer break.
Donations are being accepted at Southside Elementary during school hours. Contributions are tax deductible.
