NEW ORLEANS - Court papers show that a man charged as a member of the street gang authorities have linked to a shooting spree at a 2013 Mother's Day parade in New Orleans has made a deal with prosecutors.
Documents filed Thursday say 25-year-old Richmond Smith admitted to selling heroin as part of the Frenchmen and Derbigny gang and has pleaded guilty to a single gun charge.
The deal requires Smith's cooperation with prosecutors.
In the Mother's Day shooting, brothers Akein and Shawn Scott are accused of firing into a crowd, seeking to settle a score against a rival gang member. Twenty people were hurt.
The shooting is one element of an indictment accusing the Scotts, Smith and others of being part of a drug trafficking conspiracy.
