Plaquemines Parish allows some in to see damage
BATON ROUGE - Plaquemines Parish is allowing some residents and business owners back in to the area to survey Hurricane Isaac's damage in the southern parts of the parish.
But they were only allowed Monday with a police escort and only on the less heavily-damaged west bank.
Parish officials say they allowed people into the west bank area Monday morning and will escort people out of the southern part of the parish in the evening, from 5 to 8 p.m. To get past the roadblocks into the area, people needed proof of residency or proof of employment.
Cars weren't expected to be able to drive down the main highway in the parish for another five to seven days, according to officials. The parish has brought in pumps to help empty the floodwaters.
