Plaquemines gets Isaac FEMA grant to fix road
POINTE A LA HACHE, La. - Plaquemines Parish will receive nearly $1.3 million from the federal government to help fix roads damaged by Hurricane Isaac.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Monday the $1,280,209 grant, is part of the $195.5 million in total public assistance recovery dollars approved for the state since the Aug. 29 federal disaster declaration for Isaac. So far, Plaquemines Parish has received about $75 million.
The Times-Picayune reports between Aug. 26 and Sept. 10, Hurricane Isaac produced high winds, rain and flooding that hit Plaquemines particularly hard. FEMA says the elevated road on the parish's secondary levee required repairs after the water receded.
FEMA coordinating officer Gerard M. Stolar, in a statement Monday, said reimbursing the repairs of the levee road puts the parish a step closer to normalcy after Isaac.
