PLAQUEMINE - People in Plaquemine are not happy to have a man indicted on criminal charges patrolling their streets, and town officials said they're discussing his employment.

Brusly Police Chief Jamie Whaley was indicted Thursday by a West Baton Rouge Grand Jury on one count of felony theft and one count of malfeasance in office. Whaley also works as a part-time patrolman under Plaquemine Police Chief Orian Gulotta.

"That's not fair in any kind of way, I don't think he should be in that position at all," said Kathy Landry, in Plaquemine. "I don't think he should be patrolling the streets for sure, that's like putting an outlaw in charge."

After multiple attempts to contact both police chiefs, News 2 was told the Plaquemine Police Department did discuss Whaley's employment Friday morning, but they're still working on a decision.

"We have a good police chief," said long time Plaquemine resident, Sidney Breaux. "He's not going to do anything wrong, I can tell you that."

Chief Gulotta previously told News 2's Investigative Unit he and Whaley were friends, and that he saw no problems with Whaley patrolling in his town.
