Plant should be fully operational a few months after fire
GEISMAR - Plant officials estimated Tuesday that the Renewable Energy Group plant in Geismar should fully operational again in a few months after a fire damaged part of their production facility and burned two workers.
A spokesperson for REG said damage from the April 2 fire appears contained to a limited area of the production facility. The spokesperson said it should take them two to four months to get that up and running again.
REG said loadout operations for the renewable hydrocarbon diesel already in their inventory should resume later this week.
The spokesperson said during the production shutdown they'll take care of a planned one-month maintenance shutdown to bring filtration and other upgrades online while damage from the fire is repaired.
The fire sent two workers to the Baton Rouge General Mid City burn unit. They were released from the hospital in time for Easter.
