Plant fire in New Iberia under control
NEW IBERIA - Louisiana State Police report that the fire at a New Iberia chemical plant is under control.
Trooper Stephen Hammons said crews with Williams Firefighting and Hazard Control are continuing to spray the plant with chemicals to completely extinguish the fire, which started after a reporter explosion yesterday afternoon.
Homes and businesses in a one-mile radius are still under an evacuation notice, while several roads and highways around the plant remain closed.
Hammons said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
