Planned new city in EBR gets a name
BATON ROUGE- Organizers of a breakaway school system in East Baton Rouge Parish have started focusing on creating a new town, and apparently have settled on a name.
The group said it is considering "The City of St. George" for the area in unincorporated East Baton Rouge Parish. They plan to use similar boundaries as the St. George and Eastside fire districts.
For the town to become a reality, organizers need to gather signature son a petition and then there will need to be an election.
The same group has tried, unsuccessfully, to create an independent school district in a smaller area in the southeast part of the parish.
