Plank Road reopens following deadly crash
BAKER - A man, not wearing a seat belt, was killed in a head-on crash with a semi that closed Plank Road for hours Thursday evening and into early Friday morning.
Jeffrey G. Blackwell, 25, of Baton Rouge, died in the wreck north of Groom Road shortly before 4:30. The driver of the truck was not injured.
State Police said Blackwell crossed the center line and drove his sedan head-on into the path of a tractor-trailer. Troopers said it was unclear why Blackwell cross into the other lane of traffic.
A toxicology sample was taken from Blackwell.
The highway was opened about four hours after the crash then closed again so crews could remove the semi.
Plank Rd. reopened early Friday morning.
